Light scuffs, some ringwear. 1965 soul classic by former duo partner of Sister Rosetta Tharpe. This ultra rare record is now highly sought after by collectors of Northern Soul. Musicor MU 1128. Marie Knight was chosen by Decca in 1947 to pair up with Sister Rosetta Tharpe, and they recorded and performed together until 1952. Her contralto presaged Della Reese and her dark timbre gave her the bass parts on Tharpe's choruses. Like Sam Cooke, Johnnie Taylor, Bobby Womack, Lou Rawls, Wilson Pickett, O.V. Wright, Brook Benton, Joe Hinton and even Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Marie Knight tried her gospel skills on secular music. But unlike them, she went back to being a preacher shortly thereafter, so this is one of her few pop records.
